Amel Houston is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing mental health support, education, and social support for refugee, asylee, and immigrant communities in Houston, Texas. Amel Houston was founded in 2016 by Assaad Mohanna with the mission of improving the quality of life of Houston’s refugees and asylees. Amel Houston’s cornerstone initiative is a coaching program that provides underserved high school students with leadership and career coaching. Amel Houston is associated with Amel Association International, an internationally-recognized NGO providing healthcare, education, mental health support, and job training for vulnerable groups in the Middle East. Amel Association International has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and is a winner of the United Nations’ Big Heart award.
